Castle Hill / Tice Creek Bridge Service Day Change

Starting the week of October 15, 2022, the new collection day for recycling, organics and landfill materials will be SATURDAY

Due to the recent change in vehicle weight limits on the Tice Creek Bridge on Castle Hill Road in Walnut Creek, Republic Services must utilize its smaller collection trucks to service affected properties in this neighborhood. The smaller collection trucks are already at capacity during the week. Additional smaller collection trucks have been ordered and are expected in mid-2023. Until then, the new service day for all three carts will be on Saturday. We appreciate your cooperation.

As a courtesy, residents will receive a telephone call the day before the new collection day each week.

Castle Hill Service Day Change Q&A

What is the first Saturday service day?

During the transition week, Republic Services will provide two service days. The last Wednesday service day will be October 12, and the first Saturday service day will be October 15. Two services will be provided this week to help residents transition. Then the following week, Saturday service begins and will be provided on October 22 and each Saturday thereafter.

Why did the service day change?

The Castle Hill Road bridge crossing over Tice Creek was constructed in 1950. The City of Walnut Creek recently hired a consultant to perform an inspection of the bridge, including a load analysis of the structure. Based on the findings of the inspection and the load rating analysis, the report recommended posting signage prohibiting certain heavy vehicles from using the bridge.
