Apts/Condos: Organics (Green) Cart or Bin

You can put both food scraps and yard trimmings in your green organics cart or bin. If it was once alive, it can go in the cart. That includes food-soiled paper (paper was once a tree, and the food will contaminate paper recycling if you put it in the blue cart). If you choose to use a bag in your food scraps container, it must be compostable, not plastic or biodegradable (look for “compostable: BPI meets ASTM 6400 Standard” on the packaging).

Republic Services will provide you with a small food scraps kitchen container at no additional cost; please check with your property manager first and then call Republic Services at (925) 685-4711. If your property or HOA does not have green organics carts or bins available for composting, contact your property manager or HOA President. Organics and Recycling service is at no addtional cost with your landfill service.

Townhome Residents If you live in a townhome and pay your own Republic Services garbage bill, you can request a green organics cart for an additional fee to compost your food scraps and food-soiled paper. Call Republic Services at 925-685-4711 for more information about your account.
