The Gardens at Heather Farm in Walnut Creek offers composting classes at no cost for any school within the RecycleSmart service area. Each one hour classroom or afterschool presentation will teach kids in grades TK - 6 about how home or school based composting works to reduce waste and nourish plants in the garden. There are two programs offered:
DO THE ROT THING: SOILS AND COMPOSTING
Dig in and investigate the science of soil and decomposition. Students will solve a compost insect mystery, create a compost experiment, and discover our role in green waste recycling and conservation.
WONDERFUL WORMS
Through experiments and observation students investigate the hidden life of this fascinating composter and create a classroom worm bin.
